Frequently Asked Questions & Information
Scafell Pike Training Days
Q. We are not taking part in one of your events. Can we still come along?
A. Yes. This event is suitable for anyone taking part in a Three Peaks Challenge using Wasdale for Scafell Pike. Just remember that other organised events may have a different event format, and may use slightly different routes up Scafell Pike. Ask the organisers for route details and we'll offer you good help and advice.
Q. Is the course the same both days?
A. No. Saturday will not include Scafell Pike itself, but the surrounding area. An optional night climb of Scafell Pike is available Saturday evening on demand. Sunday will only include Scafell Pike.
Q. Is it worth the whole team attending?
A. This makes a great team event, and remember that even though the Team Leader has a free place, other team members can attend at half price.
Q. We are a group of 6 walkers attempting our own challenge in June 2009. Can we attend, and can we have a discount?
A. For a group of 6-8 walkers attending both days, we offer a 10% discount, and will also give your group your own dedicated instructor for the weekend.
Q. Is there any accommodation nearby?
A. Yes. Camping, hostels and B&B's are close. Check the links and accommodation page.

Yorkshire Three Peaks
Q. Can we get any hot food enroute?
A. Yes, at Ribblehead there is usually a catering van, and just before Chapel-Le-Dale there is a farm shop/cafe. Ribblehead and Chapel-Le-Dale both have pubs/inns.
Q. If one of our team can't complete the route, how will they get back to the start?
A. We will have minibus transport available at High Beckwith, Ribblehead and Chapel-Le-Dale.
Q. How hard is navigation?
A. The route is not signposted, and you will need to use your map. Apart from crossing the Moss, most paths are well established and fairly obvious. The summit of Ingleborough can be confusing in poor visibility.
Q. Can you provide us with a mountain guide for the challenge?
A. Yes. A qualified and experienced mountain guide will cost £150 per team - please email me for details if required.

National Three Peaks Challenge
Q. Do we need our own maps?
A. Yes. The weatherproof Beacon Map Set we give you are only A4 size. If you get lost, you may 'walk off' these maps. You should bring either Ordnance Survey or Harvey Walkers maps.
Q. Can we change some members of our team?
A. Yes. You don't need to confirm the actual members of your team until they sign the medical/disclaimer at registration in Scotland.
Q. Can we all attend the Event Safety Briefing?
A. Unfortunately there is not enough room in the conference facility for everyong. Only your Team Leader and Lead Driver should attend.
Q. Can we pick our own mountain routes?
A. No. We will have safety marshals on the specified routes, and you must use these routes. The routes are the Mountain Track (formerly the 'Tourist Path) on Ben Nevis, the footpath from Wasdale Head to Scafell Pike summit via Lingmel, the Miners Track to the summit of Snowdon from Pen-Y-Pass, then descend the Llanberis Path to the finish in Llanberis.
Q. We are unsure about our navigational ability, and also cannot find a willing driver or rent a minibus. Can you help?
A. Yes. We are able to organise a suitable vehicle, with driver and mountain guide that will act as your drivers/support team requirement, collect you in the north-west or Glasgow, and drop you off in north Wales after the event, for a total of £2,500 which includes your team entry fee. Please email MERSEYVENTURE for more details.
Q. How fit do we need to be?
A. You will need a good basic level of fitness, and should then work on your mountain fitness. Check our Fitness & Training Information which will give you some fitness and training ideas.
Q. Can you offer any help and tips for Scafell Pike?
A. Oh yes... Check out the 'Scafell Pike - Top Ten Tips' features on the Three Peaks Challenge Blog.
