What to expect before you start...

After we receive your Entry Form and Entry Fee, we will acknowledge receipt via email, stating if your team has secured a place in the event. Entry downloads will be disabled once the entry limit is reached, but some people still send entries after this time.

Shortly after your entry is confirmed by email, you will recieve an initial information pack through the post. This includes a Beacon Map & Guide Set - the mountain routes you will be using on the challenge - a Fitness Training Programme, a Kit List, an Event Itinerary and other useful planning information.

Planning support is available via our forum, and also directly via email. Two weeks before the event date you will receive a final information email which details the fine details required for registration, and any changes or updates. My direct email is richie@merseyventure.com

We recommend all teams stay in Fort William the night before the challenge. You can visit Registration on Friday evening, register each team member, get the latest information, talk to mountain leaders and organisers, collect your final information pack and read through it whilst enjoying some Scottish hospitality... This also includes event ID numbers for your vehicle, etc.

Registration will also be open during the morning on Saturday. Exact times and locations will be confirmed in the information email before the challenge.

On Saturday, your Team Leader and Lead Driver MUST attend the Event Safety Briefing. This will last around 45 minutes, and is where you will get all of the latest event information, and get to use the safety equipment. We will also distribute the event safety equipment, including handheld VHF Radios, emergency group shelters, cookers & fuel, team leader race bibs, Sport Ident dibbers, etc.

Each team will have a slightly different start time, and should arrive at the start 15 minutes before this start time. The start will not be more than 10 minutes away from the registration venue. On arrival, we will give you a final, final, safety briefing, do a team kit check, check VHF radios, clear any old information on your Sport Ident dibber, then get some team photo's - then. 3... 2... 1... GO!

What to expect during...

Once starting the Ben Nevis climb, you will be aiming for a total of 5 hours to stay on target for the 24 hour challenge. Your control card will give you target times for each checkpoint. You will be navigating yourselves, but will see a number of our safety marshals enroute. Upon reaching the summit, locate our marshal and 'dib' your Sport Ident dibber to record your exact time. Return to Glen Nevis for a quick transition from mountain to minibus, remembering to 'dib' through our base checkpoint.

You now have a MINIMUM 6 hour drive to Wasdale, perhaps using our suggested route which you have been given. You cannot start walking until 6 hours have elapsed from leaving Glen Nevis. It may still be dark, and most likely wet and misty. Clock through our checkpoint and start climbing Scafell Pike, aiming to complete within 4 hours. If you get lost, contact our mountain safety marshals via your VHF radio. We will have a number of safety personnel on the upper area of the Scafell Massif. Witness a fantastic sunrise on the summit, then descend back to your vehicle, where your support team have prepared hot soup and bacon butties for you :-)

You now have a MINIMUM drive of 5 hours to Llanberis, where you will climb Snowdon in under 4 hours. You will clock through our safety checkpoint, then get dropped by your support team at Pen-Y-Pass to climb the Miners Track, clock through the summit checkpoint, then make rapid progress down the Llanberis Path to try and finish within 24 hours at the finish in Llanberis - a TRUE No time-outs, no waiting in motorway services, no messing...!!! 24 hour Three Peaks Challenge!

At the finish...

Your support team will be waiting for you at the finish. Locate the Official Finish checkpoint and dib your team in... We will give you the official time, according to Sport Ident (which can't cheat) there and then, in hard copy, with split mountain times. Enjoy a refreshing celebratory drink at the bar, then receive your medals and certificates. A cold buffet will be available.

The times of the buffet and any award ceremony at the finish will depend upon general team progress through the challenge, which can be adversly affected by any weather or traffic issues. We highly recommend that you stay locally overnight to enjoy celebrating your achievement - but if you need to leave early we can organise your own team awards and photo's to suit.

A full set of results, and event details will be emailed out to all team leaders a few days after the challenge. Let the aches and pains subside - then start thinking of your next adventure...
