Three Peaks of Yorkshire
This 25 mile circular walk takes in the Yorkshire Dales peaks of Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, climbing some 5,000 feet using a mixture of footpaths, bridleways and tarmac road surfaces. This also includes the traverse of a very boggy moss after Pen-Y-Ghent, with wet feet guaranteed. The route uses various sections of the long distance Pennine Way footpath. The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is ideal for newcomers to walking challenges, or those in training for a National Three Peaks event.
This event starts & finishes at Horton-In-Ribblesdale, Yorkshire, near Settle. Each team entered must consist of 4 walkers. Teams may reduce in size to a minimum of 2 walkers on the day. Any individual walkers may only continue on the challenge if joining up with another (willing) team.
Most teams should be aiming to complete this challenge hike in around 10-12 hours. The Yorkshire Three Peaks record time is around 2 hours and 30 minutes, but we don't expect you to try and break this record..!

On The Day...
We highly recommend that you make a full weekend out of this event, and stay locally on both Friday and Saturday night. Beds are available in the 3 Peaks Bunkbarn at £15 per person per night and should be booked via Merseyventure. Limited camping is also available at the Bunkbarn at £5 per tent per night. The Bunkbarn and camping are in the grounds of the Golden Lion Hotel, which serves bar meals and also has accommodation available. Once the camping area is full, you should check out the campsite next door - Holme Farm (2010= £2 per person, £2 per car, £2 per tent, £1 per shower).
On Saturday, registration will be located at the front of the Bunkbarn, and will open at 6.30am. At registration you will need to confirm your team details, collect your team identification bib and Sport Ident timing chip (aka the 'dibber'), collect your laminated route map and description, and have your kit checked.
Once you have registered and had your kit checked, you are free to start at anytime between 7am and 8am. Your route will visit Pen-Y-Ghent, High Birkwith, Ribblehead, Whernside, Chapel-Le-Dale, and Ingleborough before returning to the start at Horton-In-Ribblesdale. Most people will aim to complete this route within 12 hours.
Each of the above locations will be staffed by safety marshals, and you will also be required to record your time with the marshal using your Sport Ident dibber. At High Birkwith, Ribblehead and Chapel-Le-Dale there will be the option of return transport for team members wishing to retire. At Ribblehead and Chapel-Le-Dale there are Inns and small catering outlets where you can buy simple refreshments.
On your return to Horton-In-Ribblesdale, there will be basic refreshments - and all finishers will receive a Three Peaks Challenge medal, along with a print-out of timed results and your teams challenge record time to show any charity fundraisers or sponsors.
